2016 BMW 4 series 435i Gran Coupe performance

3.0-liter, TwinPower Turbocharged 6-Cylinder Engine, 300 hp

Generating 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. of torque at 1300-5000 rpms, this advanced inline six is our first turbocharged engine offered in the U.S. in decades. Turbo lag has been virtually eliminated, thanks to Double-VANOS "steplessly" variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, and BMW's inspired use of the latest TwinPower Turbo technology. By using direct fuel injection — a high precision fuel injection system — we have overcome the traditionally poor gas mileage of turbocharging. The engine's innovative design includes an all-aluminum engine block with cast iron sleeves for durability, and a direct fuel injection system that also cools the engine. A cooler engine allows for a higher compression ratio (10.2:1 vs. 6:1 and 7:1 in other turbos), which translates into superior emission control, greater fuel efficiency and, most importantly, a thrilling performance.

8-Speed Sport Automatic Transmission

The standard high-performance Sport 8-speed automatic transmission, with its extra gears, quick changes and delightful shift comfort, is perfectly matched to the character of the BMW 4 Series Coupe.

With only small changes in rpm during shifting, the ideal gear is on-hand in virtually any situation on the road. The transmission’s intelligent control technology enables quick shift and reaction times, as well as direct downshift capability for maximum maneuvering. Drivers may also shift gears using paddles on the steering wheel.

Aerodynamics

The 4 Series Gran Coupe features various aerodynamic details that help to enhance performance and reduce fuel consumption. For example Air Curtains in the front apron reduce turbulence and drag around the front wheels, while the Air Breather decreases air resistance, which in turn increases overall efficiency.

Intelligent Lightweight Construction

An intelligent lightweight design includes the use of high-strength multi-phase steel and micro alloyed-steel, which ensures a lower overall weight for enhanced performance. Even more impressively, it is on par with the weight of a two-door coupe.

Concierge Services with Critical Calling

Wherever you travel, friendly Concierge Services representatives assist you with local restaurant and hotel recommendations, movie times and ticket information, flight arrival and departure gates and times, fuel prices and availability, and much more. You can also get the “Points of Interest” (POI) download, which allows the representative to send addresses and phone numbers to your vehicle. This information can then be transferred to your BMW Navigation system for route guidance or for calling from your Bluetooth linked mobile phone.

Functionality

The 4 Series Gran Coupe boasts as much functionality as it does style. With a trunk capacity of 17 cubic feet, it also features a 40/20/40 rear seat that can be folded down to significantly increase storage space to 45.9 cubic feet. Additionally, when not folded down, the middle section of the rear seat features two cup holders for passengers.

Full Speech Recognition

The newest Navigation System features a full speech recognition function, which allows drivers to compose text messages or emails with their voices. In addition, calendar entries and text-based messages can be read aloud to drivers through the iDrive operating system.

Comfort Access

Innovative and easy to operate, the Comfort Access system makes it possible to open both the vehicle doors and trunk and start the engine without having to use the car key. The key, even when not in your hand, is automatically recognized upon approaching the car. Once the door has been automatically unlocked, the driver can get in and start the engine by pressing the Start/Stop button. The driver's foot must be on the brake or, with manual transmission, must also depress the clutch in order to start.

Surround View, Side View, Top View and Parking Assistant

Displays video images of approaching traffic on the Control Display. The Top-view camera provides video images of the road alongside the doors, taken by cameras positioned in the exterior mirrors. Side-view cameras positioned in the front bumpers show traffic approaching the front of the vehicle from the sides, such as pulling away from exits or crossing intersections.

Adaptive LED Headlights

LED technology is used exclusively for both high and low beams, as well as in all four Corona headlight rings. At speeds of up to 35 mph, LED cornering lights automatically light up the side of the road when turning. At faster speeds, the Adaptive Headlights feature automatically swivels the headlights to illuminate the road around bends, based on your steering wheel movements. LED lights are also used in the High Beam Assistant feature and in the turn signal indicators.

BMW Assist eCall^™ and TeleServices

In an emergency, BMW Assist eCall, now standard in most BMWs, automatically sends your location and relevant information to police and EMT services, saving critical time when you need it most. Also standard with BMW Teleservices, your BMW knows exactly when the next servicing appointment is coming up and informs you about any maintenance requirements. Your BMW Service Center will call you to arrange an appointment. Wherever you are, your BMW Service Center is at your side.

Active Driving Assistant

BMW’s exclusive Active Driving Assistant system consists of multiple features, including Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, City Collision Mitigation, and Pedestrian Warning.

The Lane Departure Warning registers lane markings with a camera and gently vibrates the steering wheel if you drive over them without signaling.
